Summer of Hate

Summer of Hate (S º H), is a shoegazing band from Espinho, Portugal created by João Martins (Guitar, Backing Vocals) with Laura Calado (Voice, Lyrics), Fábio Pereira (Bass), and Pedro Lopes (Drums) with two more guest guitarists (Ricardo Fonseca, Xavier Valente), whose sound is rooted in psychedelic music with influences in rock and pop from the 60s, as well as in its revivalism in the 80s (Echo & the Bunnymen, The Church, The Jesus and Mary Chain) and 90s (The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Smashing Pumpkins, Mercury Rev, Spiritualized, Radiohead) as well as noise rock, global music and in both hindu classical music and folk.

What started as a live psychedelic performance art experience, would later become a full band in 2019, releasing a live album recorded at Ferro Bar in Porto, Portugal consisting of pieces that would later trickle down to 2022's "Love is Dead! Long Live Love!", their debut album produced by Marco Lima (Sulfur Giant, The Weatherman) that became an underground hit and a certified gem in the portuguese scene, appearing in the compilation "Novos Talentos FNAC", and a hidden gem in the international shoegaze / psych scene. In 2026 the band releases their long awaited second album "Blood & Honey", half produced by  of Al-Qasar fame and the other half by Rafael Silva of Fugly, and is out via the legendary record label Tee Pee Records.

With Blood & Honey, Summer of Hate moves decisively beyond revivalism. This is not a record that looks backward for safety, but one that uses the past as material to be reshaped. It signals a band entering a new phase, one built for larger stages, longer arcs and deeper impact. Their objective is clear. To expand. To confront. To create music that is felt as much as it is heard.

Since it’s inception, the band has toured the iberian peninsula extensively and have played shows that featured A Place to Bury Strangers, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Damned, Fat White Family, Sisters of Mercy, The Veldt, Cult of Dom Keller, Pale Blue Eyes, Green Milk From the Planet Orange and fellow portuguese scene breakthrough acts like MAQUINA., 10.000 Russos, Conferência Inferno, Solar Corona, Dreamweapon and HETTA, while getting radio play in Portugal’s radio stations, the UK and the US.

They are set to perform at the FOCUS Wales International Showcase Festival in Wales at Wrexham in 2026.
