Unsafe Space Garden

Formed by Nuno Duarte, Alexandra Saldanha, Filipe Louro, José Vale, Diogo Costa and João Cardita, Unsafe Space Garden build a sonic landscape where chaos and intention collide. Their signature dynamic shifts are fully on display. Abrasive fuzz-drenched guitars. Sudden drops into dense, atmospheric passages. Drums that accelerate only to pull the ground from beneath you. Synthesizers stepping forward as narrative drivers rather than decoration. At the centre, the lyrics are unfiltered truth, spoken in the accent of things we feel but rarely articulate, sharpened by a dark humour that cuts even deeper.

Following “WHERE’S THE GROUND?” (2023), a record that cemented Unsafe Space Garden as one of the most challenging and forward-thinking acts in contemporary Portuguese music, “FKNKU” arrives as a necessary provocation in an age of convenient silences, many of which do not even realise they exist.

The accompanying video is not an accessory but an extension of the song’s nervous system. Directed by André Tentugal and performed by Frederico Ferreira, it emerges from a deeply collaborative process between band and director. Music and image intertwine into a single poetic gesture, unfolding as an intense, symbolic journey where the body becomes a battlefield, both personal and collective.

Having already taken their uncompromising live presence to stages such as NOS Primavera Sound, Tremor, Vodafone Paredes de Coura, MEO Kalorama, FOCUS Wales, Reeperbahn, Monkey Week and Festival Sinsal, Unsafe Space Garden prove that softening edges is not a prerequisite for reach. Originality is not a barrier. It is fuel.

They don’t make music about the world. They make music against inertia. Against precarity, environmental collapse, endless wars and a future that keeps failing to arrive.
